Jade Raymond has departed Haven Studios, the Sony-owned developer working on the online multiplayer shooter Fairgames, which has been delayed after an unsuccessful external test, marking another setback for PlayStation's live service goals.
Bloomberg reports that Raymond left the studio she founded weeks after an external test of Fairgames received poor feedback. Originally slated for fall 2025, the game is now postponed to spring 2026.
As Bloomberg noted:
PlayStation leadership provided no explanation to Haven staff for Raymond’s exit, which occurred weeks after an external test of Haven’s debut title, the online shooter Fairgames, according to sources familiar with the matter. Some Haven developers expressed concerns about the game’s reception and its development progress, said the sources, who requested anonymity as they lack authorization to speak publicly.
Sony remains committed to Haven and Fairgames, appointing new co-studio heads Marie-Eve Danis and Pierre-François Sapinski.
Sony’s live service strategy continues to face challenges. While Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 became a massive success, selling 12 million copies in 12 weeks to become PlayStation Studios’ fastest-selling title ever, other live service projects have struggled with cancellations or failed launches.
Sony’s Concord stands out as one of PlayStation’s most significant failures, surviving just weeks before being taken offline due to extremely low player engagement. Sony ultimately terminated the game and closed its developer.
The Concord disaster followed Sony’s cancellation of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us multiplayer project. Earlier this year, Sony reportedly axed two unannounced live service titles, including a God of War project at Bluepoint and another at Bend, the studio behind Days Gone.
In February 2022, Sony unveiled plans to release over 10 live service games by March 2026, aiming to deliver diverse genres to varied audiences. The company invested heavily in acquisitions, including Bungie, Haven Studios, and the now-defunct Firewalk Studios.
However, in 2023, Sony president Hiroki Totoki announced a review of the 12 live service games in development, committing to launch only six by March 2026. Totoki emphasized that release dates for the remaining six were still under consideration, stating: "We’re not fixated on specific titles, but game quality is the top priority for players.”
Bungie continues to lead Sony’s live service efforts with Destiny 2 and the upcoming Marathon, set for a full release later this year. Sony recently revealed teamLFG, a new PlayStation studio focused on a live service project, while Guerrilla’s Horizon multiplayer game remains in development.
