Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), has launched Battlefield Labs, a revolutionary player-feedback platform designed to directly involve the community in shaping future Battlefield installments. Announced on February 3, 2025, this initiative marks a significant shift towards collaborative game development.
Direct Player Influence on Battlefield's Development
Recognizing the critical development phase ahead, Battlefield Studios is seeking unprecedented community input. Selected players will act as key testers, providing invaluable feedback on new features and mechanics. The initial phase of Battlefield Labs will invite players from European and North American servers. While a specific release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest via [link].
Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn and Group GM for EA Studios Organization, emphasized the platform's importance: "This game has immense potential. Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to fully realize that potential through pre-alpha testing."
While participation is initially limited, Battlefield Studios assures that regular updates will keep the wider community informed of progress and findings. Future Battlefield titles are also slated for similar community collaborations.
The Battlefield Studios team comprises DICE (creators of the Battlefield franchise), Ripple Effect (developing a new experience), Motive (developers of Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space), and Criterion (renowned for racing games and contributions to past Battlefield titles).
Testing Core Gameplay Elements in Battlefield Labs
Battlefield Labs will focus on iterative testing of specific game components. The initial phase will concentrate on core combat, destruction, weapon balance, vehicle performance, gadget functionality, and map design, culminating in testing of squad play within existing modes. Conquest and Breakthrough modes will be included to allow for innovative improvements.
Conquest, a large-scale mode focused on capturing control points (flags), utilizes a ticket system where losing all tickets results in defeat. Breakthrough features attackers and defenders, with attackers gaining tickets by securing sectors and eliminating remaining enemies.
Refinement of the class system is another key area of focus. While confident in current progress, Battlefield Studios recognizes the value of player feedback to achieve the optimal balance of form, function, and feel.
Battlefield Labs represents a significant step towards a more collaborative and player-centric approach to game development. The feedback gathered will be instrumental in shaping the future of the Battlefield franchise.
