Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2's Patch 4.0 Nerfs Reverted After Player Outcry; Public Test Servers Planned for 2025
Following significant player backlash, Saber Interactive is releasing hotfix 4.1 for Space Marine 2, reversing many of the nerfs introduced in Patch 4.0. The changes, which were met with negative reviews and criticism on Steam, will be undone starting October 24th.
The developers acknowledged the community's concerns, stating that Patch 4.0 aimed to increase enemy numbers, not necessarily their health, leading to unintended difficulty spikes on lower settings. As a result of this negative feedback, and to prevent similar issues in the future, Saber Interactive announced plans to launch public test servers around early 2025.
"We’ve been monitoring your feedback since last Thursday’s Patch 4.0 and have decided to address your most pressing concerns," said game director Dmitriy Grigorenko. "This is why, moving forward, we’d like to harness this energy by establishing Public Test Servers."
Key changes in hotfix 4.1 include:
-
Extremis Enemy Spawns: Significantly reduced on Ruthless difficulty; reverted to pre-Patch 4.0 levels on Minimal, Average, and Substantial difficulties.
-
Ruthless Difficulty Buff: Player armor increased by 10%; bot damage to bosses increased by 30%.
-
Bolt Weapon Buffs: Across the board damage increases for various bolt weapons, ranging from 5% to 20%. Specific increases are detailed below:
- Auto Bolt Rifle: +20%
- Bolt Rifle: +10%
- Heavy Bolt Rifle: +15%
- Stalker Bolt Rifle: +10%
- Marksman Bolt Carbine: +10%
- Instigator Bolt Carbine: +10%
- Bolt Sniper Rifle: +12.5%
- Bolt Carbine: +15%
- Occulus Bolt Carbine: +15%
- Heavy Bolter: +5% (x2)
The team will continue monitoring player feedback after the release of Patch 4.1 to ensure the "Lethal" difficulty remains appropriately challenging. The swift response and commitment to public testing suggest a willingness to address player concerns and improve the game's balance going forward.
