CD Projekt Red recently confirmed the introduction of fresh locales and creatures in The Witcher 4, during an interview with Gamertag Radio.
The Witcher 4's Uncharted Territories and Monstrous Inhabitants
Unveiling Stromford and the Bauk
A post-Game Awards 2024 interview (December 14th, 2024) with Gamertag Radio, featuring game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga, shed light on these exciting additions. Ciri's journey will lead players to unexplored corners of the Continent. The village showcased in the reveal trailer is named Stromford, a place where a disturbing ritual involving young girls takes place to appease their deity.
This deity, revealed as the monster Bauk, is inspired by Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a "tricky bastard," a formidable foe sure to instill fear. Beyond Bauk, players can expect a host of new monsters to challenge them.
While eager to discuss these new elements, Kalemba remained tight-lipped about specifics, hinting at a completely novel experience within the familiar setting of the Continent.
A subsequent Skill UP interview (December 15th, 2024) confirmed that The Witcher 4's map size will be roughly comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, Ciri's adventures will extend beyond the regions explored by Geralt.
Enhanced NPC Interactions in The Witcher 4
The Gamertag Radio interview also touched upon advancements in NPC design. Acknowledging the reuse of character models in The Witcher 3, Kalemba highlighted the increased diversity in The Witcher 4, emphasizing the team's commitment to giving "every single NPC" a unique life and backstory. The close-knit nature of a secluded village like Stromford will influence how these NPCs interact with Ciri and others.
CD Projekt Red is improving NPC visuals, behavior, and facial expressions to enhance immersion. Kalemba stated their goal is to create an even more immersive experience than previous entries.
While details remain scarce, the improvements to NPC interaction promise a more engaging and believable world. For further details on The Witcher 4, be sure to check out our dedicated article!
