Pokémon TCG Pocket Team Addresses Trading Feature Concerns Amid Player Criticism

By EllieSep 29,2025

The Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket team at Creatures Inc. is actively exploring solutions to enhance the trading feature, which faced significant player criticism upon its recent launch.

In a statement shared on X/Twitter, Creatures Inc. expressed gratitude for player feedback and explained that the trading feature’s restrictions were intended to prevent abuse, but acknowledged that some limitations are hindering casual enjoyment.

The team pledged to address concerns by including required trading items as rewards in future events, though the Cresselia ex Drop Event, launched today, February 3, offered none.

In addition to the core Pokémon TCG Pocket mechanics, which limit pack openings, Wonder Picking, and now trading without real-money purchases, the trading feature introduced Trade Tokens. Players criticized the steep cost, requiring the deletion of five cards of equivalent rarity to trade one.

“The trading feature’s item requirements and restrictions aim to curb abuse from bots and unauthorized multi-account activities,” Creatures Inc. stated. “Our goal is to ensure a balanced and fair environment while preserving the joy of card collecting central to the Pokémon TCG Pocket experience.

“Based on your feedback, we recognize that some restrictions are preventing players from enjoying the feature as intended. We are actively working on improvements to address these issues and plan to provide multiple ways to earn Trade Tokens, including through event rewards.”

The statement lacks specifics on the changes or their timeline, but it confirms that player concerns are being acknowledged.

Players remain uncertain about potential refunds or compensation for trades made under the current system, as changes to Trade Token costs could disadvantage early adopters.

Creatures Inc. appears hesitant to include Trade Tokens in events, offering only 200 as premium rewards for $9.99 monthly Battle Pass subscribers with the February 1 refresh—enough for just one 3 Diamond card trade, the lowest rarity requiring tokens.

The Cresselia ex Drop Event, launched today, also excluded Trade Tokens, despite the company’s recent promise. Players can earn promo cards, Pack Hourglasses, Shinedust, shop tickets, and experience, but no tokens were included.

Fans have criticized the trading system as a revenue-driven move for Pokémon TCG Pocket, which reportedly earned $200 million in its first month before trading was introduced.

Restrictions on trading cards of 2 Star rarity or higher further fuel this perception, as players unable to trade for desired cards must spend significant sums—$10, $100, or more—for random pulls. One player reportedly spent $1,500 to complete the first set, with the third set in three months released recently.

Players have labeled the system “predatory and greedy,” “toxic,” and a “major misstep.”
