According to Team Ninja producer Fumihiko Yasuda, the studio has been eager to develop a new entry in their beloved series but struggled to pinpoint the right concept. Spencer, seeing the potential, suggested a collaboration between the three companies to kickstart the project.
Phil Spencer revealed that discussions about a potential sequel began back in 2017 during his initial talks with Team Ninja. After years of back-and-forth, they found the ideal partner in PlatinumGames, known for their expertise in crafting fast-paced action games like Bayonetta and NieR: Automata.
