Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Modding, DLC, and Enhancements
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently discussed the PC version of the game, addressing player interest in mods and potential DLC. Read on for details.
No Immediate DLC Plans, but Player Requests Considered
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC version, resource constraints have prioritized completing the final game in the trilogy. However, Hamaguchi expressed openness to adding content based on strong player demand. "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them," he stated.
A Message to the Modding Community
Though the game lacks official mod support, Hamaguchi acknowledged the inevitable interest from the modding community. He appealed for responsible modding, requesting that creators refrain from offensive or inappropriate content. "We respect the creativity of the modding community and welcome their creations—though we ask modders not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate," he said.
The potential for player-created content highlights the game's appeal, mirroring the impact of mods on other titles.
PC Version Improvements and Challenges
The PC release boasts graphical enhancements, including improved lighting and higher-resolution textures, addressing issues like the "uncanny valley" effect seen in the original release. These improvements leverage the capabilities of higher-end PCs beyond the PS5's limitations.
However, porting the game presented challenges, particularly concerning the numerous mini-games and configuring unique key settings for them.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on Steam and the Epic Games Store January 23, 2025. The future of DLC will depend on player feedback.
