Wolcen Studio has recently announced their latest venture, Project Pantheon, a free-to-play combat role-playing game that integrates the thrilling elements of extraction shooter mechanics. The first closed alpha testing is set to commence on January 25 for players in Europe, with North American players joining the test on February 1.
Game director Andrei Cirkulete expressed excitement about the unique blend of genres, stating, "We've combined the tension and risk-reward dynamics of an extraction shooter with the engaging battle mechanics of combat role-playing games." He highlighted the game's roots, suggesting it as a fusion of the worlds of Diablo and Escape from Tarkov. In Project Pantheon, players assume the role of a messenger of Death, tasked with restoring order to a shattered world.
The gameplay involves battling both AI-controlled enemies and other players as they navigate through various maps. The key to retaining valuable trophies lies in successful evacuations; failure to evacuate means losing all collected loot. Players can also look forward to building their own bases, customizing their gear, and experimenting with different playstyles.
Drawing inspiration from world mythologies, the game's setting is deeply rooted in cultural legends. The economy within Project Pantheon is driven by player trading, adding a strategic layer to the gameplay. The initial adventures will unfold in "Destiny's Edge," a realm inspired by Scandinavian lore.
Despite being in the early stages of alpha testing, Wolcen Studio is committed to actively engaging with the community to refine and enhance Project Pantheon, ensuring a game that resonates well with its players.
