The team at MercurySteam, comprised of former members of Rebel Act Studios, brings their experience from the cult classic game Severance: Blade of Darkness to their latest project. Released in 2001, Severance was renowned for its groundbreaking combat system that allowed players to sever enemies' limbs, introducing a level of brutality and realism that became a hallmark of the game. This innovative approach to combat has served as a cornerstone of inspiration for MercurySteam's new endeavor, Blades of Fire.
In addition to drawing from their past, the developers have also looked to modern action-adventure titles for inspiration. Specifically, the cinematic combat and intricately crafted world of the God of War reboot by Santa Monica Studio have significantly influenced the development of Blades of Fire. The team's goal is to fuse fast-paced action with rich RPG elements, aiming to deliver a gaming experience that is both engaging and deeply immersive.
A standout feature of Blades of Fire is its unique weapon crafting system. Players will have the opportunity to forge their own blades, customizing aspects such as length, weight, durability, and balance. This system allows each player to create weapons that perfectly match their individual combat style, adding a personal touch to their gameplay experience.
The narrative of Blades of Fire centers on the warrior Aran de Lira, who embarks on a perilous journey to confront a cunning queen with the power to turn metal into stone. Throughout his adventure, Aran will encounter 50 different types of enemies, each presenting unique challenges and requiring strategic approaches to defeat.
Blades of Fire is set to launch on May 22, 2025, and will be available on PC (Epic Games Store), Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5, promising to deliver a thrilling and customizable action-adventure experience.
