New Turn-Based JRPG Demo Now Free on Steam

This upcoming tactical stealth RPG is set to captivate fans with its unique blend of gameplay and storytelling, and you can get a taste of it through a free demo on Steam.

Guns Undarkness Will Launch Demo At Steam Next Fest

Mark your calendars for the upcoming Steam Next Fest, where Guns Undarkness will unveil its free demo. This exciting project is led by none other than Shoji Meguro, the renowned composer behind the Persona series and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Joining him are Ghost in the Shell character artist Ilya Kuvshino and rapper Lotus Juice, famous for his contributions to Persona 3.

Shoji Meguro, who has been with Atlus since 1995, has composed music for beloved titles like the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series. In 2021, he ventured into indie game development while still collaborating with Atlus on their music. Since his departure, Meguro has been working on a Sci-Fi Stealth Action JRPG, which will be published under Kodansha Game Creators Lab.

Guns Undarkness was first showcased at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021 and successfully met its Kickstarter goals in 2022. The free demo will be available at Steam Next Fest on February 24, 2025, with the game entering early access later that year.

Inspired by Metal Gear Solid and Persona

According to its Steam page, Guns Undarkness is a "turn-based tactical JRPG inspired by games like Metal Gear Solid and Persona." Set in the year 2045, the game plunges players into a world teetering on the edge of destruction. You'll take on the role of a member of a private military company, embarking on missions with allies to uncover the world's secrets and save humanity.

The gameplay of Guns Undarkness revolves around two key aspects: stealth and battle. During stealth sections, players can navigate the field undetected, gaining an advantage in battles by engaging enemies without being spotted. The battles themselves are turn-based, where players issue commands to their characters and utilize various firearms to emerge victorious.

The demo for Guns Undarkness will offer around 20 minutes of gameplay, including a tutorial on basic controls, the battle system, weapons, and strategies for the game's early stages. The full game is slated for an Early Access release in Spring 2025, offering about 10 hours of playtime on PC. While no specific release date has been announced yet, the anticipation for this game is already building.
