Pocket Paralyzed!! All 'Paralyze' Cards Explained

By EthanFeb 11,2025

This guide explores the Paralyze effect in Pokémon TCG Pocket, detailing its mechanics, counters, and optimal deck building strategies.

What is Paralyzed in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

Paralyzed Effect

The Paralyzed status prevents an opponent's Active Pokémon from attacking or retreating for one turn. It automatically resolves at the start of the opponent's next turn (after their Checkup phase).

Paralyzed vs. Asleep

Both Paralyzed and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Asleep requires a coin flip to cure, or can be resolved through evolution or retreat, while Paralyzed automatically resolves after the next Checkup.

Paralyzed in Pocket vs. Physical TCG

Unlike the physical TCG, where cards like Full Heal remove Paralysis, Pokémon TCG Pocket currently lacks direct counter-cards. The core mechanic—inability to attack or retreat for a turn—remains consistent.

Pokémon with Paralyze Ability

Pokémon with Paralyze

Currently, only three Genetic Apex cards inflict Paralysis: Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno. Each uses a coin flip, making it a chance-based effect, not a reliable deck foundation.

Curing Paralysis

Curing Paralysis

Four methods exist:

  1. Time: Paralysis automatically ends at the start of your next turn.
  2. Evolution: Evolving the affected Pokémon removes the status.
  3. Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon removes the status (bench Pokémon cannot have Special Conditions).
  4. Support Cards: Currently, only Koga (when used with Weezing or Muk) offers a direct counter.

Best Paralyze Deck

Paralyze Deck

Paralysis alone isn't a strong deck archetype. Combining it with Asleep creates synergy. An Articuno & Frosmoth deck, leveraging Articuno, Frosmoth, and Wigglytuff ex attacks, offers a potent Paralyze/Asleep strategy.

Sample Paralyze/Asleep Deck

Card Quantity
Wigglypuff ex 2
Jigglypuff 2
Snom 2
Frosmoth 2
Articuno 2
Misty 2
Sabrina 2
X Speed 2
Professor's Research 2
Poke Ball 2

This provides a framework. Further optimization may be needed based on meta shifts and card availability.
