"NieR: Automata - Beast Hide Locations Revealed"

In NieR: Automata, players have access to a diverse range of weapons, each belonging to different types, which they can experiment with across multiple playthroughs. The game allows you to upgrade these weapons at the Resistance Camp, enhancing their viability and enabling you to use your preferred weapons throughout the entire game. However, upgrading weapons requires specific resources, one of which is Beast Hides, a material that doesn't drop naturally and is crucial for upgrades.

How to Get Beast Hides in NieR: Automata

Beast Hides are potential drops from wildlife such as moose and boar, which randomly spawn in specific areas like the ruined city and forest sections of the game's world. These animals are easily identifiable on the mini-map with their white icons, contrasting the black icons of machines. Unlike machines, wildlife does not spawn frequently, so knowing where to look is essential for farming them effectively.

When you encounter these animals, their behavior depends on your level relative to theirs. Lower-level animals may flee, while those at or above your level might become aggressive, especially if you approach too closely. Wildlife also boasts significant health pools, making early-game encounters with higher-level animals quite challenging.

To facilitate encounters with wildlife, you can use Animal Bait, which can lure animals closer, making them easier targets. Since wildlife doesn't respawn continuously during the main story, you'll need to kill them as you explore and then move on to find new spawns. The respawn mechanics for both wildlife and machines are similar:

  • Fast traveling respawns all enemies and wildlife.
  • Traveling far enough away respawns enemies and wildlife in previously visited areas.
  • Triggering certain story moments can respawn nearby enemies and wildlife.

Farming Beast Hides isn't straightforward, but by systematically eliminating wildlife as you explore the forest and city ruins, you'll generally accumulate enough Beast Hides. They have a decent drop rate, so as long as you're not trying to upgrade more weapons than you can equip simultaneously, you shouldn't need an excessive amount of Beast Hides at any one time.
