Mario Kart World Launches Without 200cc Mode, Update Possible

By SamuelNov 01,2025

Mario Kart World's high-speed 200cc mode is absent from the Nintendo Switch 2 launch title, though Nintendo suggests it may return in a future update.

The 200cc mode debuted in Mario Kart 8 through a post-launch patch. Could Nintendo follow the same strategy for Mario Kart World? It appears probable.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Mario Kart World producer Kosuke Yabuki noted the popularity of 200cc but remained coy about its inclusion in the new game.

"Many fans enjoy challenging modes like 200cc," Kosuke hinted. "But will we introduce engine sizes beyond 150cc in Mario Kart World? I can’t confirm anything yet."

Nintendo’s decision to exclude 200cc at launch isn’t surprising. Delaying the mode lets players master tracks at 150cc or lower before tackling the intensified 200cc challenge later.

This approach suits Mario Kart World’s multiplayer focus, where players team up, explore together, use GameChat, and enable cameras for a shared experience.

When the 200cc update arrives, players will likely need to race at the same difficulty to explore the game’s map cohesively. Starting with 150cc ensures everyone adapts before the pace escalates.

Mario Kart World releases this week with Nintendo Switch 2, featuring an open map for free exploration. IGN notes it’s distinct from Forza Horizon. Separately, IGN inquired about the fan-favorite Cow character’s diet, questioning if it involves beef.
