Lies of P developer Neowiz unveiled DLC Overture during Summer Game Fest, bringing new areas, enemies, bosses, characters, weapons, and the contentious addition of two easier difficulty settings. Now, these options are becoming even more accessible as the team implements a "difficulty reduction."
As a "Soulslike" title, Lies of P can be brutally challenging—particularly for newcomers drawn to its grim narrative and atmosphere. Director Jiwon Choi initially argued that Soulslike games shouldn't include difficulty options, launching without any. However, the team later reconsidered, stating: "We wanted to ensure a broader audience could experience the game."
That said, players tackling the Overture DLC on its "intended" Legendary Stalker setting report heightened difficulty. The debate over this spike—both supporting and criticizing it—grew so intense that the Lies of P subreddit consolidated discussions into a single megathread to manage the influx of feedback.
Steam reviews reflect this divide, with one player commenting: "At level 300, basic enemies shouldn't kill me in two hits. The enemy groupings force you to handle multiple foes simultaneously, which becomes unfair when any one can wipe half your health instantly."
Now, via a fresh Lies of P Director's Letter, further difficulty adjustments are planned.
"We're thoroughly evaluating all feedback and prioritizing implementation timelines," Choi told Eurogamer. "Combat feedback remains our primary focus. Certain elements didn't meet our vision, so we're assessing adjustments—including difficulty reductions. However, since combat defines Lies of P's core experience, any changes demand rigorous testing." This complexity likely explains why Neowiz hasn't announced a patch date yet.
Our review praised Lies of P (scoring it 8/10), and Overture matched that score. "Lies of P: Overture enriches an already outstanding game with superb expansion content, even if it follows familiar rhythms," we noted.
