At Pocket Gamer, we strive to bring you coverage of as many mobile games as possible, but occasionally, some gems slip through the cracks. One such game that caught our attention recently at Gamescom Latam is Dynabytes' "Fantasma," an engaging augmented reality multiplayer GPS adventure. Pronouncing it quickly might be a challenge, but playing it certainly isn't!
The game's presence at Gamescom Latam wasn't just to raise awareness; it also marked the launch of a significant update that introduced new language support, including Japanese, Korean, Malay, and Portuguese—fittingly, given the event's location in Brazil. But Dynabytes isn't stopping there; they plan to add Spanish, Italian, and German in the coming months, broadening the game's accessibility even further.
So, what exactly is "Fantasma" all about? In this game, you take on the role of a hunter tasked with tracking down and battling menacing entities known as Fantasmas, which are causing disturbances in the real world. To lure these creatures, you deploy portable electromagnetic fields as bait, rather than traditional fishing methods.
Once the Fantasmas are enticed, you engage them in thrilling augmented reality battles. This involves swinging your phone around your surroundings—be it your bedroom, a local park, or any other location—while keeping the Fantasma in your sights and tapping the screen to fire projectiles at them. Your goal is to deplete their health bar and then capture them in specialized bottles.
The Fantasmas you encounter appear based on your real-world location, encouraging you to explore different areas to find more of these paranormal entities. However, you can also use sensors to extend your radar and attract Fantasmas from greater distances. And for those who enjoy a more social experience, teaming up with other players is an option.
"Fantasma" is currently available on both the App Store and Google Play, offering a free-to-play experience with in-app purchases. If you're intrigued, you can download it for your preferred platform using the links provided below.
