Developer Announces Major Tweaks to REPO's Overcharge and Difficulty Scaling

By JonathanMay 14,2025

The developers of REPO are set to revamp the game's difficulty scaling and introduce significant changes to the Overcharge mechanic. These updates, revealed during the open beta phase, aim to enhance gameplay and integrate new features every 10 levels, starting with the Overcharge at level 10. Let's dive into what's coming and what the developers have been up to during the open beta.

REPO Development Updates

Overcharge Overhaul

During the open beta of REPO, developer Semiwork gathered crucial feedback on various aspects of the game, including the Overcharge mechanic. This feature allows players to counter enemies by picking them up and throwing them onto hard surfaces or away from their team. However, this action is not without consequences; an overcharge meter fills up, and if it reaches its limit, the player will explode.

Originally available from the game's start, the Overcharge mechanic will now be unlocked at level 10. This change is part of a broader strategy to introduce new difficulty-increasing mechanics every 10 levels, such as at levels 20, 30, and beyond. These new challenges are designed not only to ramp up the difficulty but also to deepen the game's lore. Semiwork has stated, "So this system will be also tied to lore. It won’t be just a gimmick for no reason. There will be something attached to this and we will share more details in the future."

In a unique approach to gather direct player feedback, developers from Semiwork participated incognito in random matches during the open beta. Pontus Sundstrom, a developer at Semiwork, expressed his satisfaction with the community's engagement and the fun players had with the new additions. He shared, "And I've also actually played with a lot of you guys - incognito, in secret, through the random matchmaking in the servers." Sundstrom further noted, "And I've been asking some questions and finding out what you guys find fun, stuff like that."

With the valuable insights gained from the open beta, Semiwork is committed to enhancing REPO. Players can anticipate more exciting updates as the developers continue to engage with the community and promise to reveal further details soon.
