Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Draws 114k Players, Slammed for Performance

By EthanMar 27,2026

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has launched with over 114,000 concurrent players on Steam, marking one of the most significant launches for a Soulslike game not developed by FromSoftware.

It currently ranks as the eighth most-played game on Steam by concurrent player count, breaking the 100,000-player barrier and reaching a peak of 114,132 players in the past 24 hours. For comparison, data from SteamDB shows that Lies of P peaked at just over 30,000 concurrent players, Lords of the Fallen reached 43,075, and The First Berserker: Khazan peaked just below 33,000.

Of course, concurrent player numbers aren’t the only measure of a game’s success, but they offer a useful starting point—even though they don’t include players on other platforms.

Despite its strong launch-day performance, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers initially received "Overwhelmingly Negative" user reviews on Steam, which have since shifted to "Mostly Negative." Players report issues such as "extremely poor performance," a "completely lifeless" protagonist, and "clunky" combat and gameplay. At the time of writing, only 21% of over 6,500 reviews on Steam are positive.

"I wanted to give this game a fair shot. I was really looking forward to it," wrote one reviewer. "Even after seeing the largely negative ratings and reading the criticisms, I decided to try it for myself—and unfortunately, those concerns turned out to be valid. The game suffers from major performance problems. I tried to push through, hoping the gameplay might make up for other shortcomings, but I couldn’t fully experience the combat system. I fought the tutorial boss and cleared a few enemy camps, and there were moments during the boss fight where I genuinely enjoyed myself. Still, the persistent performance issues overshadowed the experience."

"UE5 games can be hit or miss when it comes to performance, and in this case, it’s unfortunately a miss—at least on my setup," another player added. "For this reason alone, the game really needs a free demo."

However, not all feedback has been negative. "I seem to be one of the lucky ones—the game runs smoothly on my system," shared a satisfied reviewer. "No crashes, no stutters, no slideshow combat. That makes one thing clear: Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is being unfairly criticized by players with underpowered PCs and little optimization know-how."

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a Soulslike action RPG set in the land of Shu during the chaotic late Ming Dynasty. You take on the role of a mysterious warrior stricken by a gruesome feather-borne illness, uncovering hidden truths and confronting supernatural threats in an ancient empire on the brink of collapse.

"Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is another excellent addition to the growing Soulslike genre, boasting refined combat, thoughtful level design, an impressive skill tree, and intimidating bosses," IGN noted in its review, awarding the game an 8/10. "Just be prepared for occasional difficulty swings and a few cheap-feeling ambushes."

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers released earlier today, July 24, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Microsoft also added it to Game Pass on day one, available to subscribers of the Ultimate tier.
