Saros: Housemarque's Next Hit After Returnal, Set for 2026

By LoganApr 25,2025

Housemarque has unveiled Saros, the much-anticipated sequel to their 2022 roguelite shooter, Returnal. Set to launch in 2026 exclusively for the PlayStation 5 and optimized for the PS5 Pro, Saros features Rahul Kohli in a leading role. The game was revealed during the latest PlayStation State of Play, showcasing its unmistakable Housemarque style.

In Saros, players will step into the shoes of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a quest for truth on a treacherous, ever-changing planet. This world is shrouded in the mystery of an eclipse and inhabited by formidable entities, echoing the atmosphere of Returnal. The game's tagline, "come back stronger," hints at its roguelike elements, while the display of fireballs suggests the bullet-hell style that Housemarque is known for.

PlayCreative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-centric approach. While it introduces a new single-player IP, it builds upon the third-person action mechanics of Returnal.

However, Saros isn't just a repeat of Returnal. According to Louden's insights on the PlayStation Blog, a significant gameplay difference lies in the system of permanent resources and progression. Although the world of Saros transforms upon the player's death, players can now permanently enhance their weapons and suits, adding a new layer of strategy and growth.

Housemarque promises more details later this year, with plans to reveal an extended gameplay demonstration.
