A remake of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion will have big changes to game mechanics

MP1st has uncovered intriguing details about a rumored The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake, gleaned not from industry insiders, but from the portfolio of an anonymous former Virtuos Studios developer. This suggests a full-fledged remake, not just a remaster, is underway, utilizing Unreal Engine 5.

The portfolio highlights significant gameplay overhauls. Expect revamped mechanics across the board, including stamina, stealth, attack blocking (drawing inspiration from Soulslike titles to address the original's perceived shortcomings), archery, damage reactions, and the user interface. The damage calculation system has been reworked to incorporate visible hit reactions, and stamina management is anticipated to be more intuitive. The UI and archery systems will also receive modernizations.

While MP1st's sources confirm the remake won't appear at the upcoming Developer_Direct, rumors suggest a potential release within the year. Initially, Microsoft documents hinted at a remaster, but the project seems to have evolved into a more substantial undertaking.
