Jason Momoa is set to bring the iconic alien bounty hunter Lobo to life in the 2026 DC Universe film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Lobo, known for his superhuman strength and immortality, hails from the planet Czarnia and is the last of his kind, much like Superman. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, the character first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983.
Momoa, who previously portrayed Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe, will transition to the rebooted DC Universe with this role. He has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character, citing aesthetic similarities between himself and the character as a reason for his excitement.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa shared his enthusiasm for the role, hinting at a brief yet impactful appearance in the film. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," he said. "That's the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It's kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he's pretty rough and gruff and... I'll say the bike's really cool." When asked about his screen time, he responded, "It's her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
DC co-chief James Gunn has shared the first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl, though the image didn't reveal much. Gunn announced on Bluesky that filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow had started, with Alcock portraying Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl.
The film draws heavily from the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira, which follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeking revenge for her father's murder with the help of Supergirl. The villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills, is played by Matthias Schoenaerts, while Ruthye is portrayed by Eve Ridley. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as her mother.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters in June 2026, following James Gunn's Superman film this summer. The DCU's Clayface movie is slated for September 2026.
