Gandhi and Other Fan-Favorite Leaders Could Still Return
The possibility of Gandhi leading a civilization in Civ 7 remains alive, as discussed by lead designer Ed Beach in an IGN interview on February 13, 2025. While his return isn't confirmed for launch, he may be added later, likely as downloadable content.
In the interview, Beach explained the reasoning behind omitting certain classic civilizations and leaders. "We haven't forgotten about any past characters," Beach stated. "Naturally, there's a lot of discussion about the absence of civilizations like Great Britain or England in the initial lineup."
Firaxis chose to leave out major powers like Britain and India primarily due to the need for roster diversity. "With so many popular choices, we also want to introduce fresh, exciting civilizations," Beach elaborated. "This means some favorites are set aside temporarily, but we always plan for the long term regarding when to reintroduce leaders and civs. So, Gandhi's return is still a possibility."
Given the extensive DLC support for Civilization 6, it is reasonable to expect Gandhi will eventually appear in Civ 7. The specific timing for his reintroduction, however, is not yet known.
