A 30-40 Hour Main Campaign Awaits
Prepare for an immersive journey! Creative Director Jonathan Dumont revealed during the Kyoto Showcase Event that Assassin’s Creed Shadows (AC Shadows) offers a 30-40 hour main campaign, complemented by over 80 hours of engaging side content. The team is actively exploring the addition of a New Game+ mode and other features based on player feedback, addressing the absence of this feature in AC Valhalla.
Dumont highlighted AC Shadows' dynamic world, featuring realistic seasons and weather systems, innovative gameplay mechanics, a vastly expanded customizable hideout, and a compelling Animus storyline that connects to future Assassin's Creed games.
A Japanese-Themed Assassin's Creed Dream Realized
The development team's passion for creating a Japan-centric Assassin's Creed game is evident. Dumont explained that the combination of Japan's stunning natural landscapes and advancements in game technology, coupled with a compelling narrative, made this project a dream come true.
Drawing inspiration from classic Japanese films like 13 Assassins, Sekigahara, Zatoichi, and Kurosawa's works, the team has crafted a unique Assassin's Creed experience. While acknowledging the online discussions surrounding Yasuke's portrayal, Dumont emphasized the team's commitment to delivering an exceptional game that honors their vision and respects their Japanese audience.
Delving Deep into the Hideout: Your Customizable Fortress
The Secret Valley of Izumi Settsu
A March 5th, 2025, website post detailed the Hideout's features. Nestled within the secret valley of Izumi Settsu province, this base of operations allows players to build their Brotherhood.
Systems Associate Director Dany described the Hideout's creation as "pretty ambitious," highlighting the freedom players have to customize their homebase across an entire acre of land. Players can place buildings, pavilions, pathways, and even local flora and fauna. Customization options progressively unlock as the game progresses, reflecting the player's journey.
A League of Your Own
The Hideout houses various characters with their own backstories and challenges. Character placement influences their interactions, with fighters gravitating towards the Dojo and others enjoying sake in the Zashiki. This dynamic system fosters new dialogue between characters, breathing life into your Brotherhood and creating a true home away from home. Dany emphasized the collaborative writing process, highlighting the unique interactions developed by writers from four different studios worldwide.
With its immersive Japanese setting and expansive features, Assassin’s Creed Shadows promises a compelling Assassin’s Creed experience.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches March 20, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates!
