A fraudulent Baldur's Gate 3 mobile port has surfaced on the iOS App Store, prompting a warning to gamers. This fake app, deceptively presented with modified screenshots and a superimposed mobile HUD, is free initially but demands a hefty $29.99 monthly subscription fee. Crucially, there is no official mobile version of Baldur's Gate 3.
The app's developer, listed as "Dmytro Turuk," omits crucial details like the game's Dungeons & Dragons origins and Larian Studios' involvement. Instead, it's titled "Baldurs Gate 3 - Mobile Turuk," raising immediate red flags.
Data Theft Concerns:
While the deceptive nature of the app might deter many, its free initial download could lure unsuspecting players. The subscription fee is revealed only after installation. More alarmingly, the app's terms of service suggest it may collect user IP addresses and other personal data. This isn't the first such Baldur's Gate 3 scam to appear on app stores.
Currently, similar fraudulent apps haven't been reported on the Android store, but caution is advised on both platforms. Remember, if an offer seems too good to be true, it likely is. Larian Studios has not announced any plans for a mobile port of Baldur's Gate 3, though earlier installments in the series are available on mobile. Alternatively, Baldur's Gate 3 can be streamed via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Users who downloaded the fraudulent app should delete it immediately.
