Choosing the optimal classes in *Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition* can be daunting due to the wide array of options and the time required to master new weapon skills. While most classes are viable in this RPG, certain ones stand out as particularly effective. If you stick with your starting class, that's perfectly okay too, as it's one of the most adaptable in the game.

Our Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition classes guide highlights the top five classes in the game and explains why they're worth your consideration.
Drifter
Xenoblade Chronicles X encourages you to move on from the Drifter class once you reach rank 10, but this starting class remains highly versatile and useful throughout the entire game. For fans of the original Xenoblade Chronicles, Drifter can be likened to Shulk, though with a more limited skill set. This class offers a range of debuff and offensive arts, including skills that can stagger and topple enemies, as well as one that regenerates your health, reducing your reliance on potentially slow-healing party members.
Drifter wields assault rifles for potent ranged damage and knives for strong melee attacks, ensuring you're well-equipped for any combat scenario. Moreover, Drifter boasts the highest number of skill slots among all classes, making it an excellent choice even after experimenting with other classes. You can always return to Drifter to tailor it to your preferred playstyle.
Full Metal Jaguar
Full Metal Jaguar, Elma's class, is a high-risk, high-reward choice. By maintaining your HP below 50 percent, you gain a significant boost to your critical hit rate. One skill even ensures your HP remains below this threshold by reducing it each time you attack. The Ghost Factory skill aids your allies by helping them dodge attacks, while Electric Surge allows you to deal ether damage, a rare feature among melee classes. Even the basic skill, Shadowstrike, is exceptionally powerful.
Duelist
Duelist is a versatile attacker, excelling in close-range combat but also capable with ranged attacks. Equipped with a longsword and an assault rifle, Duelists have access to a variety of valuable skills. Last Stand, for instance, converts your TP into party TP, ensuring your team can execute their strongest attacks when needed.
Soul of the Samurai enhances your basic attacks with area-of-effect capabilities, and True Stream Edge recovers TP when your morale is high. Blossom Dance is arguably one of the best skills in the game, staggering enemies, setting them up for toppling, and bypassing their resistances, making it incredibly effective in battle.
Mastermind
If your strategy involves manipulating enemy behavior rather than dealing massive damage, Mastermind is an ideal choice. Though its arts may not match the Duelist's in raw power, they simplify long battles against tough foes. Mastermind can remove enemy buffs and, at level seven, reduces enemy debuff resistance with each attack. Additionally, it boosts TP and can inflict the virus effect on opponents. This class requires careful attention to the ebb and flow of battle, but the payoff is well worth it.
Galactic Knight
While Galactic Knight is often seen as tailored for Skell users, it offers significant advantages outside of these giant fighting robots as well. Galactic Knights can dispel debuffs, heal allies, and deal substantial, specialized damage. They can also reduce their own cooldowns through melee combos. For Skell users, the class provides abilities that restore appendage HP and increase combat power without any prerequisites.
