Excitement is building as DC's next major film, *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow*, has officially started production. To mark this milestone, DC's head honcho, James Gunn, took to Bluesky to share the first glimpse of Milly Alcock in her role as Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl. The photo features Alcock comfortably seated in her actor's chair, giving fans a sneak peek at the star who will bring the iconic character to life.
In his post, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm about the start of filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, with acclaimed director Craig Gillespie, known for *Cruella* and *I, Tonya*, steering the project. Gillespie's involvement was previously reported last April, and now it's officially confirmed.
While specific details about the plot remain under wraps, *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow* draws significant inspiration from the graphic novel by the same name penned by Tom King, illustrated by Bilquis Evely, and colored by Ana Norgueira. This standalone tale follows an alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's assistance to avenge her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The comic, which earned a nomination for "Best Limited Series" at the 2022 Eisner Awards, offers a compelling narrative that fans should definitely check out.
Joining Alcock in the cast are Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz portraying Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, who steps into the DC universe as the character Lobo.
*Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow* marks the second installment in the revamped DC universe, following James Gunn's *Superman*, slated for release this summer. The DC lineup continues to expand with projects like *The Batman Part II* (which may or may not tie into Gunn's cinematic universe) and a rumored *Clayface* film from horror maestro Mike Flanagan.
