By CamilaMay 25,2025

The surprise announcement of the development of Space Marine 3 sent ripples of excitement and concern throughout the Warhammer 40,000 community. Publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive revealed the news in mid-March, just six months after the release of Space Marine 2, amidst ongoing worries about the game's content updates.

In response to these concerns, both companies issued a statement in a new blog post, reassuring fans that Space Marine 2 would continue to receive support. They promised that no teams were shifting focus from Space Marine 2 to the new project, and they outlined plans for additional content.

The statement from the developers reads, "Mid-March, we announced that Space Marine 3 had begun development and we’re excited to see your enthusiasm, although we hear those of you who fear for Space Marine 2 and its future support. So let us set the record straight: Space Marine 3 does not mean the end of Space Marine 2's development. Far from it. No teams are shifting over, no one is abandoning the game, and our plans to bring more awesome content to Space Marine 2 remain."

As part of their commitment, the developers confirmed that Space Marine 2’s year one roadmap is still on track, with Patch 7 scheduled for a mid-April release. They also teased upcoming additions, including a new class, new PvE operations, and new melee weapons. The statement hinted at more surprises, saying, "Trust us, there are surprises even dataminers haven’t found out about :)".

Regarding Space Marine 3, the developers clarified that this announcement marks the beginning of a new project, which is years away from release. They expressed gratitude for the community's support and excitement, stating, "Many of you were very excited for this project and this makes us incredibly happy and motivated. Thank you for the unwavering support. That being said, we still have a lot to offer to the players with Space Marine 2."

The most anticipated addition to Space Marine 2 is the new class, with many fans speculating it could be the Apothecary, a role similar to a medic in Space Marine lore, or the Librarian, which would introduce powerful warp-based abilities. Additionally, the community has expressed interest in seeing a new melee weapon, such as the iconic axe featured in Secret Level's Warhammer 40,000 animated episode, which modders have already brought into the game.

The decision to develop Space Marine 3 was not unexpected, given the success of Space Marine 2. In an interview with IGN following the launch of Space Marine 2, Saber Interactive's Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, hinted at potential story DLC and shared that ideas for Space Marine 3 were already in discussion. He noted, "Our game director Dmitry Grigorenko, he has proposed some story ideas that could either be DLC or a sequel. Yes, yes, yes! There's so many different factions... there are other chapters, too, that are interesting...".

This development promises a bright future for the Space Marine series, with continued support for Space Marine 2 and the exciting prospects of Space Marine 3 on the horizon.
