The gameplay evokes BioShock influences as the iconic bounty hunter scans ancient statues and battles new foes on the jungle planet Viewros using purple energy controlled with her free hand. While details remain scarce about this mysterious world she's been "unexpectedly transported to," the footage reveals advanced alien civilizations have congregated around the planet's colossal central tree for centuries.
Though Nintendo remains guarded about specifics beyond the confirmed 2025 release window, today's footage demonstrated practical applications of Samus' new abilities. Players will manipulate alien devices with these powers while also redirecting energy projectiles through the planet's exotic fauna.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has endured a tumultuous development journey since its initial 2017 E3 teaser - disappearing for years amid studio changes before resurfacing with proper gameplay last year. While this Direct focused exclusively on the current Switch hardware, questions linger about potential enhanced versions for Nintendo's next-generation system.
