CD Projekt's Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Teased

CD Projekt's highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Project Orion, remains shrouded in secrecy. However, Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith recently revealed intriguing new details during the Digital Dragons 2025 conference.

While Pondsmith's involvement isn't as extensive this time, he confirmed reviewing scripts and visiting CD Projekt to examine progress. "Last week I explored different departments," Pondsmith shared. "They'd show me new cyberware concepts asking for feedback, and we'd discuss what works."

Expanding Beyond Night City

The most significant revelation concerns the sequel's setting. Pondsmith confirmed players will visit both Night City and an entirely new metropolitan area. Describing this second location, he stated: "It doesn't feel like Blade Runner - more like Chicago gone wrong."

This description suggests a fresh dystopian vision rather than a literal future Chicago. The exact relationship between these cities remains unclear - whether they'll both be fully explorable or serve different gameplay purposes.

CD Projekt's Development Landscape

Currently, 84 of CD Projekt's 707 developers are dedicated to Project Orion in their Boston studio. The project remains in early conceptual stages with The Witcher 4 being the company's primary focus.

The Cyberpunk universe continues expanding beyond the main games. Netflix plans another animated series following Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' success, while Cyberpunk 2077 prepares for its Nintendo Switch 2 release.
