The Pokémon franchise boasts a rich history of starter Pokémon, with each generation offering a trio of Grass, Fire, and Water types. This comprehensive guide explores all 27 starter lines across nine generations.

Generation I

The Kanto region's original trio – Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle – debuted in Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow, returning in remakes like FireRed and LeafGreen, and Let's Go! Pikachu and Eevee. They're also available in various other games, including HeartGold and SoulSilver, and X and Y.

Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile hail from Johto, appearing in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, and their remakes, HeartGold and SoulSilver. They've been accessible in later generations through methods like the QR Scanner in Sun and Moon. Cyndaquil is also a starter in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie, the Kalos starters from Pokémon X and Y, are featured in the Pokémon the Series: XY anime. Greninja, Froakie's final evolution, has a special Ash-Greninja form. The Kalos trio is available in other games and DLC.

Pokémon Sword and Shield introduced Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble. Pokémon Legends: Arceus featured past starters with regional variants. All Galar starters are in Scarlet and Violet DLC.
