A Japanese YouTuber has achieved a remarkable feat in Pokémon TCG Pocket, accumulating an impressive 50,000 cards by consistently purchasing the maximum daily amount of Poké Gold since the game's launch. Let's delve into this incredible accomplishment and the exciting McDonald's collaboration!
YouTuber's Daily Poké Gold Spree
A $8,500 Investment (and that's not counting sales!)
Hajimesyacho, a popular Japanese YouTuber known for diverse content ranging from product reviews to vlogs and challenges, recently revealed his extraordinary Pokémon TCG Pocket achievement on Twitter (X). Since the game's launch on October 30, 2024, he's purchased the maximum 720 Poké Gold daily. This translates to approximately $100 per day, totaling an estimated $8,500 over the game's 85-day lifespan. This figure excludes any potential savings from in-game sales events during the launch period and the holiday season. His dedication is truly evident in his complete collection of cards from the Genetic Apex (A1) and Mythical Island booster packs, as well as time-limited promotional cards.
The latest addition to his collection is the new Trainer card, Pokedex, which allows players to view the top three cards in their deck. This card was a reward for the global community reaching 40 billion cards collected in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
McDonald's and Pokémon: A Happy Meal Collaboration
Adding to the excitement, The Pokémon Company announced a surprise collaboration with McDonald's on January 21, 2025. Pokémon-themed Happy Meals feature collectible physical cards and in-game items from Pokémon TCG Pocket. Fifteen unique physical cards, including popular Pokémon like Miraidon, Roaring Moon, Rayquaza, and more, are available, seven of which are coveted holo or foil cards. Pokémon TCG Pocket players can also redeem in-game rewards: 24 Pack Hourglasses and 12 Hourglasses, used to open booster packs and choose a card from Wonder Pick.
The collaboration features four distinct Happy Meal box designs, showcasing iconic dragon-type Pokémon such as Charizard, Rayquaza, Roaring Moon, and Dragonite, alongside Pikachu. These limited-edition items are available at participating McDonald's restaurants while supplies last. Remember, the in-game TCG Pocket rewards expire on March 31, 2025.
Trading Arrives in Pokémon TCG Pocket
On January 17, 2025, Pokémon TCG Pocket announced details about its upcoming trading feature on Twitter (X). Trading will initially be limited to friends with cards of matching rarity (1-4 diamonds and 1-star). Rarer cards like Special Illustration Rare, Immersive, and Crown Rares are excluded. A consumable item will facilitate trades, similar to the Stardust system in Pokémon GO.
Initially, cards from Genetic Apex (A1) and Mythical Island booster packs will be tradeable, with the team promising to expand the selection based on player feedback. They emphasize balancing ease of trading with the enjoyment of collecting. The announcement also hinted at a new booster pack launching in January 2025, though the exact date remains undisclosed.
