PlayStation Portal Enhances Cloud Streaming with Beta Updates, Adds Gameplay Capture

By BlakeMay 28,2025

Sony is set to roll out a significant update for PlayStation Portal users participating in the Cloud Streaming Beta. Among the enhancements, users can expect improvements to the remote play system’s cloud capabilities, launching later today.

One standout feature is the introduction of sorting options within the Cloud Streaming Beta catalog. Players will soon be able to organize games by Name, Release Date, or by the most recent additions to PlayStation Plus.

Another exciting addition is the ability to capture gameplay during a Cloud Streaming session. Users will have access to familiar create menu options, including pausing to take screenshots or record video clips. According to Sony's announcement in the PlayStation blog, video clips up to 1920x1080 resolution and lasting up to three minutes will be supported.

Play Additionally, gameplay will automatically pause under specific conditions such as opening the PS Portal quick menu, entering rest mode via the power button, or when a system error message is displayed. However, the pause triggered by rest mode will only last for 15 seconds; beyond that, the cloud streaming session will disconnect. Unfortunately, pause functionality will not be supported during online multiplayer sessions.

Further updates include a queue system for instances when the streaming server reaches capacity, notifications for periods of inactivity, and enhanced user feedback tools. As part of its commitment to ongoing improvement, Sony plans to introduce new features based on user feedback.

Currently, the Cloud Streaming Beta is accessible exclusively to PlayStation Plus Premium members, enabling them to stream select PS5 games from the PS Plus Catalog via the PS Portal. Following an update last year, the Portal has evolved into a more independent cloud streaming device, and it seems Sony intends to refine this feature further moving forward.

As cloud streaming becomes increasingly integral to the modern gaming landscape, it will be intriguing to observe how Sony's offering develops alongside the PlayStation Portal. For now, it’s comforting to know that users can conveniently capture countless screenshots while streaming to their Portal.
