Nexon, Blizzard Ink Deal for Overwatch Mobile

By MadisonMay 10,2026

  • Overwatch Mobile might still be in development as Nexon signs a new agreement with Blizzard
  • The primary focus is on publishing and development rights for StarCraft
  • Reports also suggest a potential MOBA spin-off or sequel to Overwatch

A mobile version of Overwatch has long seemed unlikely, especially after Jason Schreier's revealing book indicated that the project had been shelved. However, a new partnership between Korean developer Nexon and Blizzard could revive the possibility.

While the central part of the deal involves publishing and development rights for a new installment in the legendary StarCraft RTS series, competition was reportedly intense, with companies like Krafton and Netmarble also showing interest. If confirmed, Nexon would take charge of future entries in the franchise.

More surprising are the reports that the bidding included publishing rights for an Overwatch mobile game. This suggests that the mobile adaptation is not canceled and might even be an official sequel, potentially designed as a MOBA.

This wouldn't mark Overwatch's first venture into the MOBA genre, as Blizzard previously promoted Heroes of the Storm. It's entirely possible that Heroes of the Storm could be adapted for mobile, which might be what the rumored Overwatch MOBA actually refers to.

Alternatively, we could see a spin-off release. However, the idea of this being 'Overwatch 3' seems highly unlikely, as it would represent a significant shift for a series traditionally focused on console and PC.

Embracing its MOBA roots could benefit Overwatch, especially with new competitors like Marvel Rivals emerging. To reinvigorate the franchise, Blizzard and its partners may need to take bold action.
