MultiVersus Nears Shutdown: Warner Bros. Game Loses 99% of Players

Rumors are swirling that Season 5 of MultiVersus might be its last stand. According to AusilMV, an insider known for game leaks, a credible source has indicated that this upcoming season is a critical effort to revive the game's fortunes. While it's still just a rumor, the situation appears concerning.

When MultiVersus launched in 2022, it enjoyed explosive success, peaking at 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the player base plummeted by 99% shortly after, prompting Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite returning with updates in May 2024, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.

Season 5, set to begin in early February, represents the developers' final opportunity to rekindle player interest. This season is essentially a relaunch, though the developers have chosen to categorize the original 2022 release as a "beta." Initially, players warmly received the game, but the decision to temporarily shut it down in June 2023, announced in March of the same year, left many—especially those who had purchased the premium edition to support the developers—disappointed.
