Marvel Rivals Dev Faces Social Media Pressure, Announces Major Season 3 Changes

By MilaApr 11,2025

NetEase Games is making significant adjustments to the post-launch roadmap for Marvel Rivals, aiming to keep the game fresh and exciting for its player base. The company is set to shorten the duration of its seasons from three months to two months, starting with Season 3. This change will ensure a more rapid rollout of major content updates while still delivering at least one new hero every month.

These updates were teased during the Marvel Rivals Season 2 Dev Vision Vol. 5 video, which also introduced the new Vanguard, Emma Frost, set to launch with Season 2 on April 11. Following her, Ultron will join the roster mid-season, though his class details will be shared closer to his release. Both heroes are expected to bring new dynamics and abilities to the game, but the real shift in hero introductions and their impact on gameplay will start in Season 3.

Guangyun Chen, the creative director of Marvel Rivals, shared insights into the changes in the Dev Vision video. "Since the launch of Season 1, we’ve been deeply contemplating how Marvel Rivals can continuously deliver a fun and engaging experience for you all," Chen stated. He acknowledged the pressure from social media discussions to keep the game exciting and confirmed NetEase's commitment to fulfilling fans' fantasies about Marvel Super Heroes through new modes and a diverse character roster. The team plans to adjust its systems to accommodate this increased content flow, with more details to be revealed before Season 3's launch.

NetEase recently unveiled details about Marvel Rivals Season 2, which will transition from a vampire takeover theme to a storyline centered around the Hellfire Gala. This shift promises new outfits, maps, and characters, with further information expected in the coming weeks.

Marvel Rivals launched to immense success in December, attracting 10 million players within three days. Available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game saw a massive concurrent player count of 480,990 on Steam at launch. Season 1 in January peaked at 644,269 concurrent players, making it the 15th most-played game on Valve's platform. Despite a recent decline in concurrent players, Marvel Rivals remains a top-played game on Steam, and the upcoming Season 2 and Season 3 are expected to reinvigorate player interest.
