Marvel's upcoming Vision Quest series is reportedly resurrecting a villain from the very first MCU film, Iron Man.
Deadline reports that Faran Tahir will reprise his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the Afghan terrorist leader who held Tony Stark captive in the opening scenes of the 2008 film. Al-Wazar's betrayal by Obadiah Stane marked his last MCU appearance until now. His return, similar to Samuel Sterns' reappearance in Captain America: Brave New World, adds another layer to the MCU's expanding narrative. The Vision Quest series, starring Paul Bettany as White Vision, currently lacks a release date.
Initially portrayed as a generic terrorist leader, al-Wazar's backstory was significantly enriched during Phase 4. His group was later revealed to be connected to the Ten Rings, a connection initially a subtle nod to comic book lore. The 2021 film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings greatly expanded on this, retroactively establishing al-Wazar as a Ten Rings commander. This opens possibilities for a connection between Shang-Chi and Vision Quest through this returning character.
However, Vision Quest might also delve into previously unexplored, less-developed corners of the MCU, much like Deadpool & Wolverine revisited the more unconventional aspects of the former Fox Marvel universe.
The series will also reportedly feature the return of James Spader as Ultron, his first appearance since Avengers: Age of Ultron. Further details about the show remain scarce.
