Mario Kart World introduces an entirely new map that brings together iconic locations from the Mario universe. However, Producer Kosuke Yabuki clarified that this version is not considered the official representation of the beloved Mushroom Kingdom.

In a June 3 interview with The Verge, Yabuki explained that the interconnected world was meticulously crafted with racing dynamics as the priority. He stated, "As you explore this world, you'll encounter familiar elements reminiscent of the Mushroom Kingdom, such as question mark blocks and warp pipes. Regarding the overall world design, this environment was specifically created for Mario Kart World. Details like mountain heights and desert lengths were all intentionally chosen for this game."

Yabuki emphasized that the team focused less on replicating realistic geographic patterns and more on building a world that enhances the racing experience. He also mentioned that any adjustments created a chain reaction, requiring comprehensive evaluation since every component is interconnected.

"This makes terrain design particularly challenging because modifying one element necessitates changes across multiple areas," he detailed. The expansion from 12 to 24 racers prompted the team to reassess fundamental game mechanics and carefully integrate these updates.

Prior to launch, Nintendo released detailed notes for Mario Kart World's initial update. Version 1.1.0 activates CameraPlay, an innovative Switch 2 feature that lets players broadcast a live video feed of themselves into the game. This functionality requires Nintendo's dedicated Switch 2 camera, sold separately.

Additionally, the update enables online and LAN multiplayer modes, along with ghost data sharing for Time Trials. It expands the initial character selection and removes course selection time limits during Wireless Play and LAN Play sessions.

Players eagerly anticipate experiencing Nintendo's latest installment in the Mario Kart franchise and navigating the interconnected Mushroom Kingdom landscape. Mario Kart World launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. For the most current game news and updates, see our related article below!
