Tidepool Games has just released a thrilling new game on Android called MageTrain, which combines elements of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into a fast-paced pixel art experience. If you're a fan of Nimble Quest, you'll find MageTrain's gameplay strikingly familiar, as it draws heavy inspiration from it.
What's MageTrain Like?
In MageTrain, you control a line of heroes that move like a snake, each autonomously attacking as you navigate through an arena. Your role involves strategic positioning, deciding who leads and who follows in the train, as each hero's abilities vary based on their position. With nine heroes available at launch, including one that uniquely throws birds, you have a variety of skills at your disposal.
The game features eight distinct dungeons, 28 enemy types, and 30 skills to enhance your team. As you progress, you'll collect gold and power-ups, ensuring each run through the game's roguelike structure feels fresh. Similar to games like Slay the Spire or FTL, MageTrain offers branching paths and upgrades, with no fixed levels or save points. If you crash into obstacles or get overwhelmed, you'll need to start over.
