Keanu Reeves has given fans the most promising update yet on the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 cult classic, *Constantine*. In the original film, Reeves portrayed John Constantine, an occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, riding the wave of his success from *The Matrix*. For two decades, fans have been clamoring for a sequel, and Reeves himself has expressed a keen interest in revisiting the character. Now, it appears that *Constantine 2* is closer to becoming a reality, with Reeves confirming a successful pitch meeting at DC Studios.
"We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, 'Okay,'" Reeves shared with Inverse. "So, we're going to try and write a script." This marks a significant step forward for the project, although it's important to note that there's still no guarantee that DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran will greenlight the script. *Constantine 2* is not yet a confirmed project in the rebooted DC Universe, and neither Gunn nor Safran have mentioned it as a possibility. Thus, while progress is being made, the film remains on the edge of realization.
Reeves teased that if *Constantine 2* does get made, it will be set in "the same world" as the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured, adding a humorous note that "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more." This aligns with the character's traditional portrayal in the comics and the first film, where Constantine's suffering is a central theme.
Adding to the anticipation, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed in September that a script for *Constantine 2* was already in his inbox. Speaking to ComicBook, he confessed his hesitation to read it, driven by his deep desire for the sequel to be exceptional. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," he said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
