HBO's highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series has reportedly secured its Dumbledore: veteran actor John Lithgow. While HBO and Warner Bros. haven't officially confirmed the casting, Lithgow himself revealed his acceptance of the role in a ScreenRant interview.
Lithgow described the decision as challenging, stating it would define "the last chapter" of his career, considering he'll be approximately 87 by the time filming concludes. Despite this, he expressed excitement about joining the project and working with the team behind this reimagining of the beloved Harry Potter franchise.
This marks the first confirmed casting for the series, which aims to re-adapt J.K. Rowling's books with a completely new ensemble. Rowling will serve as executive producer alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts.
The lack of a full cast suggests the show is still in the early stages of development. Lithgow, a celebrated actor with credits including "3rd Rock from the Sun" and his Emmy-winning portrayal of Winston Churchill in "The Crown," brings significant experience and prestige to the role.
