YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared his disappointment over the collapse of a project he had been passionate about—a Soma animated show. In his video titled "A Bad Month," he opened up about the creative challenges he's faced, including the cancellation of this particular project that he had been working on for a year.
Soma, a critically acclaimed survival horror science fiction game developed by Frictional Games, was released in 2015. Jacksepticeye, who streamed the game during its launch and considers it one of his top favorites, had been in discussions with the developers to bring Soma to life as an animated series. His excitement was palpable as he described his love for the game and its story, which he ranks among the best in video game history.

Despite the enthusiasm and progress made, the project fell apart unexpectedly. Jacksepticeye mentioned that an unnamed party decided to take the project in a "different direction," leaving him "quite upset" and reluctant to delve into the specifics of what transpired. This sudden change not only disrupted his plans but also left him questioning his priorities for the upcoming year.
The cancellation of the Soma animated show has significantly impacted Jacksepticeye's content creation plans for 2025. He had intended to focus heavily on the project, which would have reduced his regular uploads but promised a unique creative endeavor to share with his audience. The abrupt end to the project has left him frustrated and uncertain about his next steps.
Following Soma, Frictional Games released two more entries in the Amnesia series: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In a statement made after the release of Amnesia: The Bunker, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip expressed the company's intention to explore themes beyond horror, aiming to focus on other emotional qualities and immersive experiences in their future projects.
