PlayStation enthusiasts can breathe a sigh of relief as Yoshinori Kitase, the producer, and Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the game, confirmed in their interview with 4Gamer on January 23, 2025, that FF7 Remake Part 3 will be available on the PS5. Addressing concerns about the shifting platforms for previous entries in the trilogy, Kitase reassured fans, stating, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)."

With the PS5 now well into its lifecycle, there's speculation about the trilogy possibly making its way to the next PlayStation console, the PS6. However, details about the PS6 remain scarce.

Square Enix has kept the release date of FF7 Remake Part 3 under wraps, but development reportedly kicked off alongside Part 2, with full production accelerating post the release of FF7 Rebirth in February 2024. Leveraging assets from the first two games and a completed story draft, the wait might not be as long as fans fear.

In an update on January 23, 2025, during an interview with Famitsu, Hamaguchi shared, "It’s going very well. We started working on the third game right after FFVII Rebirth ended, and we have a build that will confirm what we should aim for as a game by the end of 2024. We can already see the direction of where we will land, so we have been working towards that goal since the beginning of this year. We are progressing without any delay from the schedule we planned when we launched the remake project, so we hope you will look forward to it."

Kitase also expressed satisfaction with the story's conclusion, stating, "At least I'm very satisfied with it, so I'm sure it will be a conclusion that will satisfy the fans as well."

Although a specific release date hasn't been revealed, a report from the Washington Post on March 6, 2024, indicated that the FF7 Remake trilogy has been secured as a timed exclusive for PlayStation consoles.

The original FF7 Remake (2020) enjoyed a year of exclusivity on PS4 before becoming available on PC through Epic Games Store and Steam. FF7 Remake Intergrade, an enhanced version of the first installment, was exclusive to PS5 for six months before its PC release. FF7 Rebirth, launched on PS5 in February 2024, saw its PC version released on January 23, 2025.

Following the pattern set by its predecessors, FF7 Remake Part 3 is expected to launch exclusively on PS5 for a period before eventually reaching other platforms.

Square Enix Multi-Platform Strategy Amidst Declining Sales

Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix reported a decline in HD title sales in their financial results on March 31, 2024. Titles such as FF16, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, and FF7 Rebirth contributed to this trend, with the company citing increased development costs, advertising expenses, and higher content valuation losses as reasons for the operating losses.

In response, Square Enix plans to "aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy" that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs. This approach aims to boost sales and could see more of their HD titles, including those beyond the FF7 Remake trilogy, becoming available on a broader range of platforms like Xbox and the upcoming Switch 2, despite their established partnership with PlayStation.
