Elden Ring Unveils New Boss in Nightreign Patch

By ZoeyMay 12,2026

Yesterday's patch 1.01.3 for Elden Ring: Nightreign went live, a seemingly minor update focused on bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements. Most players acknowledged it and moved on. However, a subtle new addition to the Expeditions menu gradually caught people's attention.

A new mission titled "Everdark Sovereign" for the Gaping Jaw boss began appearing. It soon became evident that FromSoftware had quietly fulfilled its promise to introduce enhanced Nightlords this month, letting players discover this new challenge organically. Witnessing the community piece this discovery together in real-time was a fantastic experience.

As confirmed on Bandai Namco's site this morning, enhanced versions of existing Nightlords—dubbed Everdark Sovereigns—will roll out in Elden Ring: Nightreign over the coming weeks. Each week, a new Sovereign will arrive in Limveld, starting with the Gaping Jaw. The Sentient Pest and Darkdrift Knight are also slated to receive their own more challenging versions.

Everdark Sovereigns are online-only encounters. Each Sovereign remains available for one week before being replaced by the next. To challenge a Nightlord's Sovereign form, you must first have defeated its standard version.

Early player reports confirm that this upgraded Gaping Jaw is a significant step up in difficulty. Fight footage shows a far more aggressive Adel darting across the arena, summoning massive storms, and swiftly overwhelming entire teams of players.

While you can face the Everdark Sovereign solo or in co-op, the new fight presents a formidable challenge, even for seasoned Nightreign veterans. It evokes the spirit of post-launch enhanced fights in games like Monster Hunter, such as Tempered monsters, designed to test players as their skill and gear improve.

So, what's the reward for defeating an Everdark Sovereign? A brand-new shop in the hub area lets you spend the Sovereign Sigils earned from victory. This shop itself is a welcome addition. Beyond special Relics and items, Sigils can be used to alter the Roundtable Hold's lighting, purchase available character skins, and apply shifting earth visual effects—a highly requested feature from the community.

Just a small performance/bug fixing update. Nothing major...

While the 1.01.3 patch notes initially seemed modest, the community now recognizes this as a substantial update. The introduction of these enhanced bosses has already reinvigorated Nightreign with fresh challenge, and the prospect of more to come is highly enticing.

Bandai Namco teases this as just the beginning: "This is only the start of the Everdark Sovereign cycle. As the power of the Night ebbs and wanes, the Sovereigns will eventually return to the abyss." With full content updates planned for the future, this serves as a promising indicator of the long-term support for FromSoftware's co-op survival action game.
