Daredevil: Born Again Star Vincent D'Onofrio Reveals Wilson Fisk Can Never Be In a Movie: 'It's All Caught Up In Rights'

It turns out that our favorite Hell's Kitchen villain, Wilson Fisk, might not be gracing the big screen anytime soon, as revealed by Vincent D’Onofrio, the star of Daredevil: Born Again.

During a recent conversation on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, D’Onofrio shared some disappointing news: "The only thing I know is not positive," he said. "It's a very hard thing to do, for Marvel to use my character. It's a very hard thing to do, because of ownership and stuff." He elaborated, "I’m only usable for television shows. Not even a one-off Wilson Fisk movie. It’s all caught up in rights and stuff. I don’t know when that would work out — or if it ever would work out at all."

This statement seems to dash hopes of seeing D’Onofrio's portrayal of Fisk in any Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, effectively ruling out his appearance in upcoming films like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday. This could also impact the potential for a Charlie Cox Daredevil movie, where Fisk would likely be a key antagonist.

PlayD’Onofrio first brought Fisk to life, portraying New York City’s most powerful crimelord and future mayor, also known as Kingpin, in Marvel’s *Daredevil*. The Netflix series, which debuted in 2015, ran for three seasons and concluded in 2018 with nearly 40 episodes. D’Onofrio’s nuanced performance has garnered widespread acclaim from both fans and critics, leading him to deeply consider how Fisk is perceived, especially in terms of the influences he draws upon.

In a recent discussion with IGN, D’Onofrio reflected on the everyman performances that inspired his portrayal of Fisk: “Anytime they were in a fight, or they were holding a gun, they looked nervous,” he said, citing actors like Harrison Ford. "They carried their own humility into the action scenes with them. And I always thought that that was the way to go. That made it look real to me. Gary Cooper in Sergeant York, when he takes aim, when he becomes the sniper, it's the humility in his eyes that you see. It's amazing. I think that helps action stuff a lot. We're all very conscious of that.”

Currently, fans can catch Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, which is airing weekly on Disney+ and will conclude with its finale on April 15, 2025.
