The highly anticipated reboot of the beloved fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia, has just gotten even more exciting with the addition of Carey Mulligan to its stellar cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan joins a lineup that already includes former James Bond actor Daniel Craig, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, and the legendary Meryl Streep. This new adaptation is being spearheaded by Greta Gerwig, who will once again take on the dual roles of writer and director following her success with the Barbie movie.
The upcoming film will bring to life the prequel novel, The Magician's Nephew, set before the events of the iconic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Carey Mulligan, celebrated for her numerous accolades including Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globe nominations, is set to portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the story's young hero, Digory. Daniel Craig will step into the shoes of the titular magician and Digory's uncle, while Emma Mackey will embody a younger version of the infamous White Witch. Meryl Streep will lend her voice to the majestic Aslan, the series' god-like talking lion.
This isn't the first time Narnia has captivated audiences on the big screen. A previous trilogy, released between 2005 and 2010, adapted the first three books of C.S. Lewis's series: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Those films featured Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson voicing Aslan.
Greta Gerwig's fresh take on Narnia marks her first major project since the 2023 blockbuster, Barbie, which starred Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling and garnered eight Academy Award nominations, ultimately winning for Best Original Song.
Fans can look forward to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew hitting theaters in 2026, promising a new and thrilling journey into the magical world of Narnia.
