Years of fervent pleas from Bloodborne fans for a remastered edition of FromSoftware's acclaimed title have reached a fever pitch, fueled by recent Instagram activity.
Instagram Posts Ignite Bloodborne Remaster Hype
A Beloved Classic Deserves a Modern Update
Bloodborne, the critically lauded 2015 RPG, remains a cherished title among players. The desire to revisit Yharnam's gothic streets on current-gen consoles is widespread. While no official announcement exists, recent posts on FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia's Instagram accounts featuring Bloodborne have ignited a wildfire of speculation.
On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three images showcasing the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." One depicted Djura, a formidable hunter encountered in Old Yharnam. The others highlighted the Hunter exploring Yharnam's heart and the eerie Charnel Lane graveyards.
While these posts might simply be a nostalgic throwback, Bloodborne's passionate community on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) is meticulously analyzing every detail, searching for hints of a long-awaited remaster. The timing, particularly with PlayStation Italia's similar post on August 17th, has many feeling deliberately teased.
PlayStation Italia's post, translated, asks: "Swipe to see some of Bloodborne’s most iconic locations! A journey through gothic atmospheres and dark mysteries. Which is your favorite?" The comments section is filled with fans expressing their yearning for a Yharnam return, sharing favorite locations, and humorously suggesting the most iconic location would be on PC or modern consoles.
The Hunt Continues: Almost a Decade of Waiting
Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne cultivated a fiercely loyal fanbase, earning widespread critical acclaim and recognition as one of gaming's greatest achievements. Yet, a sequel or remaster remains elusive.
Fans point to the 2020 Demon's Souls remake (originally released in 2009) as a potential precedent, but concerns linger about the potential wait. Given Demon's Souls' over-a-decade-long journey to a remake, the fear of a similar fate for Bloodborne is palpable, especially as its tenth anniversary approaches.
Fuel was added to the fire in a February interview with Eurogamer, where director Hidetaka Miyazaki acknowledged the advantages of remastering on modern hardware, stating: "I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value... I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important."
However, Miyazaki's comments, while hopeful, don't guarantee a remaster. Unlike Elden Ring, FromSoftware doesn't hold the publishing rights to Bloodborne; Sony does. As Miyazaki stated in an IGN interview: "Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically... We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware."
The dedicated Bloodborne community's desire for a remake is undeniable. Despite critical success and strong sales, Sony hasn't expanded the game beyond the PS4. Whether the current speculation translates into reality remains to be seen.
