Kesenian Tradisional Batak Mandailing: Gordang Sambilan
Gordang Sambilan merupakan warisan budaya Batak Mandailing yang kaya makna. "Gordang" berarti gendang atau bedug, sementara "sambilan" berarti sembilan. Sesuai namanya, alat musik ini terdiri dari sembilan buah gendang dengan ukuran dan diameter berbeda, menghasilkan beragam nada.

Ensemble Gordang Sambilan biasanya dimainkan oleh enam orang pemain. Peran masing-masing gendang antara lain: gendang 1 dan 2 sebagai taba-taba, gendang 3 sebagai tepe-tepe, gendang 4 dan 5 sebagai kudong-kudong (dengan gendang ke-5 sebagai kudong-kudong nabalik), gendang 6 sebagai pasilion, dan gendang 7, 8, dan 9 sebagai jangat.
Dahulu, Gordang Sambilan hanya dimainkan dalam upacara-upacara sakral. Namun, seiring perkembangan zaman, kini Gordang Sambilan sering menghiasi berbagai acara, mulai dari pernikahan, penyambutan tamu hingga perayaan hari besar. Sebagai wujud apresiasi terhadap warisan budaya Indonesia, Gordang Sambilan bahkan pernah dipentaskan di Istana Presiden. [2]
