Nintendo has confirmed that the The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 version will indeed support cloud saves, dispelling earlier concerns among fans. We already knew that the Nintendo Switch 2 would feature enhanced versions of several Switch 1 games, including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, a recent disclaimer on Nintendo's website had caused some worry that this game, or at least this version, might not include the coveted cloud save feature.
Initially, the website for Tears of the Kingdom's Switch 2 edition included a disclaimer stating: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature." This led to confusion and concern among the gaming community.
However, Nintendo has since updated its website to clarify the situation. While the page for Donkey Kong Bananza has removed any mention of cloud saves, the Tears of the Kingdom page now reads: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch."This revised disclaimer should provide reassurance to Switch 2 owners, indicating that players can transfer their old Switch 1 Tears of the Kingdom saves to their new Switch 2 devices. However, it won't be possible to transfer Switch 2 saves back to the original system, as noted by Eurogamer.
The The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition page also includes the same message, suggesting a consistent approach to save data transfers across these titles.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders went live overnight, maintaining a price of $449.99, and the response was as enthusiastic as expected. For more details, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
