Ygwulf's Fate in Avowed: Kill or Spare?

Ygwulf

In the opening stages of Avowed's main quest, the Envoy becomes the target of a tragic assassination. After unraveling the mystery behind your own murder, you'll discover that Ygwulf, a member of the Paradisan Rebels opposing Aedyr's presence, is the culprit. Upon confronting him, you face a crucial decision: to show mercy or seek vengeance. Here's a comprehensive guide on whether you should kill Ygwulf in Avowed.

How Ygwulf Makes a Case for His Freedom

After conducting detective work with Kai and Marius in Paradis during the "Untimely End" quest, you'll track down Ygwulf to his underground hideout. Prepare for a challenging journey, as you'll need to clear out numerous enemies and navigate through platforming sections. Stock up on Health Potions and equip your best gear for this encounter.

Throughout the dungeon, you can uncover documents that shed light on Ygwulf's true intentions and his subsequent remorse. Initially driven by a misguided belief that the Gods demanded the Envoy's death, Ygwulf later regrets his actions. Even if you miss these documents, he'll confess his remorse and willingness to face justice when you confront him.

What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In? Answered

Choosing to have Ygwulf turn himself in to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is the least favorable option. He'll face a brutal fate under Inquisitor Lödwyn, and you'll receive fewer rewards than if you spare him or defeat him in combat.

If you opt to spare Ygwulf, he'll express gratitude by rewarding you with 625 Copper Skeyt and a small amount of Adra. While these resources are helpful, they're not game-changing. Unfortunately, sparing him doesn't change his ultimate fate; he'll still meet his end later in the story.

Here's Why You Should Kill Ygwulf in Avowed

Considering Ygwulf's inevitable demise, choosing the Attack option in dialogue is the most beneficial course of action. This choice triggers a boss fight, providing valuable combat experience for future encounters in Avowed. Moreover, defeating Ygwulf yields the best loot among the three options.

Upon defeating him, you can loot his body for currency, Adra, and his unique Blackwing armor set. Not only does the Blackwing armor look impressive, but it also offers significant stealth advantages, including a +30% damage boost when attacking from stealth and a 25% movement speed increase when crouching.

Does Ygwulf's Fate Affect the Story in Avowed? SPOILER WARNING

Despite being an early-game character, Ygwulf's fate does subtly influence the game's ending. After completing the final section, you'll see how your decisions impact the world of Eora in the Living Lands through art and narration.

Regardless of your efforts to bring peace to the Living Lands, Ygwulf's death will always occur, radicalizing the Paradisan Rebellion and ensuring their continued violent resistance even after the game's conclusion.
