However, he clarified that Geralt won't be the central figure. In an interview with Fall Damage, Cockle hinted at a narrative shift, emphasizing Geralt's supporting role. He stated that while Geralt's involvement is confirmed, the extent of his participation and the game's overall focus remain undisclosed.

The mystery surrounding the new protagonist adds to the anticipation. Cockle himself expressed his eagerness to discover the game's central character, further fueling speculation about a fresh face leading the charge.

Clues and Speculation

A Cat School medallion, visible in the Witcher 4 teaser trailer from two years ago, hints at a potential protagonist linked to this once-feared Witcher school. While decimated prior to The Witcher 3, Gwent card game lore suggests surviving members, fueling speculation about a vengeful Cat Witcher taking center stage.

Another strong contender is Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter. Her possession of a Cat medallion in the books, and the game's subtle use of a Cat medallion replacing Geralt's Wolf medallion during Ciri's playable segments in The Witcher 3, strengthens this theory. Potential scenarios range from Ciri assuming the lead with Geralt acting as a mentor, to a more limited role for Geralt, possibly through flashbacks or cameos.

The Witcher 4's Development and Release

Game director Sebastian Kalemba, in an interview with Lega Nerd, highlighted the game's dual objective: to attract newcomers while satisfying longtime fans. The Witcher 4, codenamed Polaris, officially began development in 2023, boasting a massive team of over 400 developers, making it CD Projekt Red's largest project to date.

Despite the substantial investment, the release date remains distant. CEO Adam Kiciński previously indicated a minimum three-year wait, citing the ambitious scope and the development of new Unreal Engine 5 technologies.
