The Witcher 4 Set To Be The Most Ambitious of the Series

CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has announced The Witcher 4, promising the most immersive and ambitious entry yet in the acclaimed video game series. Executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga calls it "the most immersive and ambitious open-world Witcher game to date," a sentiment echoed by game director Sebastian Kalemba, who emphasizes the team's commitment to raising the bar with each new title, building on the lessons learned from Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Ciri's Destiny: From Child to Witcher

The cinematic trailer unveiled at The Game Awards revealed Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, taking center stage as the next Witcher. Story director Tomasz Marchewka confirms this was always the plan: "From the very beginning we knew it had to be Ciri - she's a very complex character, and there is so much to be told about her."

While fans know and love Ciri's overpowered abilities from The Witcher 3, Mitręga hints at a shift: Ciri's skillset in the trailer suggests a change, with Mitręga cryptically stating "something totally happened in-between," while Kalemba assures players the game will provide clear answers. He promises, "We cannot tell you exactly how. But we can tell you just, like, believe us: that was one of the things, or first things, that we were solving." Despite this, Mitręga assures fans that Ciri retains Geralt's essence: "She's faster, more agile—but you can still tell that she was raised by Geralt, right?"

With Ciri stepping into the Witcher role, Geralt's time for a well-deserved retirement has arrived. Information from Andrzej Sapkowski's novel Rozdroże kruków (Raven's Crossing) reveals Geralt's age: he was born in 1211, making him 61 in The Witcher 3 and likely in his seventies by The Witcher 4. While Witcher lore suggests a lifespan of up to 100 years, this revelation surprised many fans who previously estimated Geralt's age to be significantly higher.
